What: On Monday, April 11, YoungArts welcomed over 250 of New York City’s top cultural and community leaders, philanthropists, celebrities and art aficionados to the annual YoungArts New York Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Temple of Dendur. The festive evening celebrated YoungArts’ 40th anniversary and artists in the cultural capital of New York and across the nation. Presented by Givenchy and UBS Financial Services, Inc., the event was hosted by gala honorary co-chairs Agnes Gund, José Parlá and Vanessa Williams*, andco-chairs Sarah Arison, Gillian Hearst and Sandra Tamer. The YoungArts annual New York Gala raised nearly $1 million to support artists nationwide.
The YoungArts New York Gala was emceed by Tony, EMMY and four-time GRAMMY Award-nominated singer, songwriter, actor and philanthropist Josh Groban and featured an elegant reception and seated dinner. Throughout the evening, a series of interdisciplinary performance vignettes were directed by actress Zuzanna Szadkowski* and featured a lineup of notable performances by Alexis Aimé*, Abdulrahman Amer *, Benny Benack III*, Nia Drummond*, Marty Jaffe*, Dario Natarelli*, Colin Stranahan* and Austin Zhang*. In the Temple of Dendur, guests were greeted by Josh Groban, who set a celebratory mood for the evening. During remarks, Sarah Arison spoke passionately about how YoungArts has stayed true to her grandparents’ vision of nurturing and supporting artists throughout their careers and creative journeys, and honored the artists YoungArts has awarded over the past four decades. José Parlá spoke on the importance of the organization in young artists’ lives and shared his experiences as a guest artist and mentor. Following remarks, guests were awed by a series of interdisciplinary performances, ranging from bombastic to reflective, which highlighted the creativity and resilience of the YoungArts artist community.
